Scientists prefer to call starfish seastars as they are echinoderms. They do not swim, but rather crawl along the sea bed using a multitude of tiny tube feet located along each of their arms. If they lose a limb, they can grow, but it can take up to a year. There are approximately 2000 different species of seastars.
